Regarding accusations stemming from the incident in west Cork when Mr. Palmer was hurt, a Ukrainian national was recently remanded in custody.

On December 29, at 9.50 am, Bohdan Bezverkhyi (33) appeared before a Bandon District Court special session in connection with the suspected hit-and-run incident at Dunkereen Cross west of Innishannon.

Bezverkhyi was accused of failing to provide aid to the injured Party at the scene of the collision, report the incident, retain his car at the stage for a sufficient amount of time, and stop.

Det Garda Manus O’Donnell informed Judge James McNulty that Bezverkhyi was taken into custody on December 30 at 2.52 pm.

The Ukrainian national was later charged under caution, and the court was told that when this occurred, he apologized to the cops.

Garda Det O’Donnell claimed that Mr. Bezverkhyi made several admissions in the Bandon Garda Station. Bezverkhyi was held for questioning under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

Myra Dineen, the defense attorney, claimed that her client had “expressed regret” for what had happened.

During the brief court hearing, Bezverkhyi had assistance from a translator. According to Ms. Dineen, her client has 12 years of experience in ventilation and air conditioning.

After the court learned that the accused was a man of modest means currently renting housing, Judge McNulty awarded free legal aid. The State is resisting bail in this case, according to Gardai.
