Quincy resident Leslie Swick Van Ness, 42, died on April 10, 2023 in Naples, Florida.
There is no official information about the accident she suffered and the journalist is reported to have died of illness.
Originally from Elvaston, Hancock County, Van Ness graduated from Hamilton High School and Illinois State University.
At the time of her death, she lived with her family in Morton, Illinois, leaving behind her husband and two sons.
Van Ness died Monday after falling ill and being hospitalized while vacationing in Florida with her family on Thursday.
Leslie has over eight years of experience in recruiting talent for the media industry.
She previously served as Director of Talent Acquisition for Gray Television, responsible for current recruitment across the company’s 91 TV markets.
Prior to joining Gray Television, he worked for Quincy Media for five years as a Talent Acquisition Specialist.
During her time at Quincy Media, Leslie was responsible for recruiting for the company’s operations in Quincy, Illinois.
Prior to working in talent acquisition, I was a news anchor for WGEM TV in Quincy, Illinois for 13 years.
She started as a reporter, then anchored weeknight news shows at 5, 6 and 10, as well as producing daily shows.

Leslie Van Ness dies: Funeral details
Leslie Swick Van Ness’ funeral will be held April 17 at St. John’s Episcopal Parish, followed by a service at Woodlands Cemetery in Quincy.
Funeral Director Hansen Spear manages these arrangements. No visitors were scheduled, but her funeral was attended by family and friends.
The Herald Whig published an obituary on April 11-12, 2023. The family suggested planting a tree in Leslie’s honor instead of flowers.
Many people, including colleagues Doug Wilson, Kelly Cabrera, Randy Fleming and Jane Fleming, offered their condolences.
One of the mourners, Stella Daskalakis, said: Leslie is a good listener, a supportive friend, and a great talker.
Stella remembers the wonderful conversation they had and pours out words of admiration.
