Reed Wiseman’s religious beliefs are unknown to this day. However, many believed he was Jewish.

The NASA astronaut was born on November 11, 1975 in Baltimore, Maryland. He is a graduate of Timonium Durainy High School.

Reed Wiseman, who lost his mother Judy, lived with his father Bill in Hunter Valley, Maryland.

He is married to Carol Taylor and has two daughters. Carol died in May 2020 at the age of 46 after a five-year battle with cancer.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. Later, in 2006, Johns earned a master’s degree in Systems Engineering from Hopkins University.

Reed Wiseman’s Career Highlights

After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in 1997, Reid joined the Naval Reserve Officer Training Corps (NROTC) program and received flight training at Naval Air Station Pensacola, Florida.

During his second deployment in 2003, he was selected for the US Navy Test Pilot School (NTPS) at Naval Air Station Patuxent River, Maryland, where he earned his NTPS 125.

After graduating in June 2004, Gregory joined Air Test and Evaluation Squadron 2-3 (VX-23) at Naval Air Station Patuxent River as a test pilot and program officer.

He was promoted to Navy pilot in 1999 and assigned to the 101st Fighter Squadron at Naval Air Station Oana, Virginia, replacing the F-14 Tomcats.

Reed Wiseman was selected as one of nine members of NASA’s 20th Astronaut Class in June 2009. He began his astronaut training at Johnson Space Center in August 2009 and completed his training in May 2011.

He was a U.S. Navy lieutenant and pilot with the 103rd Strike Fighter Squadron aboard the aircraft carrier Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) at Naval Air Station in Ocean, Virginia.

As a child, Wiseman often attended the US Navy’s “Blue Angels” performances, and after witnessing the launch of the space shuttle in 2001, he developed a strong ambition to become an astronaut.

Artemis 2 missions are led by Reed Wiseman. For NASA, this will be the first manned orbital flight since the Apollo program in more than 50 years.

He was named NASA’s Astronaut Office Chief on December 18, 2020. However, in December 2022, Weisman resigned from the position and was succeeded by his deputy Drew Foster as interim head until Joseph Aqaba took over. In February 2023, he assumed the position of President and Representative Director.
